How to Find a Cosmetic Surgeon / Plastic Surgeon

Best Cosmetic Surgery Begins with a Little Detective Work

It sometimes amazes me how much time a person will take choosing a new outfit or a new pair of shoes and how little time he or she will spend researching the person to whom they will entrust their cosmetic surgery.

cosmetic surgeryLess invasive aesthetic cosmetic procedures that promise incredible results are certainly all the rage these days at the growing number of “medical spas” nationwide. Yet, each procedure, whether it be surgical or non-surgical, brings with it some physical and financial risks for the consumer.

Did you know that technological advances combined with a multi-billion dollar market have brought with them a flood of new treatments promising faster results with less pain and recovery time. However, many have not been scientifically proven effective.

Competition for your cosmetic dollars is fierce, especially in the current economy.

Botox, Fillers among Most Sought After Treatments

Did you know that two-thirds of all cosmetic surgery procedures in 2010) were for minimally-invasive treatments like Botox, facial fillers and laser treatments?

That is according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Procedures that are nonsurgical are very popular with our patients as well. Many seek a more youthful, less tired appearance in minimal time. Our Medical Spa specialists are highly trained with many years of combined experience.

Here are some of the top procedures:

Weight Loss Surgery and Breast Reduction: Which Comes First?

For very overweight women considering both bariatric procedures and breast reduction surgery, it may be difficult to know which procedure they should undergo first.

I have long believed the best results are achieved when weight loss comes first and now new research shows that is indeed the case.

The study found that after massive weight loss, 86 percent of the women surveyed who previously had reduction mammaplasty thought their breasts looked worse. This could be because the weight loss caused further shrinkage of the breasts, leading to excess skin and other changes. This is also true for patients who didn’t have a previous breast reduction. Looking Good at Any Age

Can you be too old for plastic surgery?

A recent New York Times story explored the issue of older patients and plastic surgery procedures.
The article profiled some patients in their 70s and 80s who were satisfied with procedures such as breast augmentation, facelifts and eyelid surgery.

This doesn’t surprise me a bit. People are living longer and remaining in good health. They want to look as young as they feel.

According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons statistics, in 2010 there were 349,237 surgical procedures among patients age 55 and older. Continue reading “Looking Good at Any Age” »

New Wrinkle-fighter Hits Market

Do you have fine lines or wrinkles on your face that you’d like to make disappear? A new treatment option has won approval and will soon be available here in Oklahoma.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the injectable drug Xeomin for temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyes (also known as “elevens”).
Xeomin, which will be marketed under the brand name Bocoture, is derived from botulinum toxin type A, which is the same ingredient in Botox Cosmetic and Dysport.

The full effects of Xeomin occur within one week, and the results last from three to six months, making it comparable to Botox Cosmetic in terms of both onset and duration of action.

Worldwide, more than 84,000 people have been treated with Xeomin injections. The U.S. is now the 20th country to approve use of the treatment.

Reports say Xeomin will be available to physicians here in the spring of 2012. We will keep you posted as we get more information about this exciting new treatment!
